I was born and grew up in my parents' Chinese takeaway in Cardiff, Wales. After 4 years as a practicing employment solicitor, I decided to embark on my lifelong dream to run my own business.
In 2012, I applied for BBC's MasterChef 2013 with the knowledge that I needed to give myself some credibility in relation to food and, if I got far enough in the competition, it would give me the platform to launch the business. I got to the finals and following that I quit my job to create Hokkei, which was a delivery service Chinese takeaway.
The concept created great excitement and was popular but after careful consideration we had to call time on the unit.
Following the closure of Hokkei I was able to re-establish myself at the 5 star Celtic Manor Resort in Wales and I was also able to re-evaluate the Hokkei business model. I am now in the process of opening Woky Ko at Bristol Harbourside.
