After 4 years as a practicing employment solicitor, I decided to embark on my lifelong dream to become an entrepreneur. I was born and grew up in my parents' Chinese takeaway in Cardiff, Wales. I wanted to do something unique in the takeaway sector. I noted that the Chinese food sector was too fragmented, the businesses lacked scalability and most importantly the food was outdated and generally unhealthy.
In 2012, I applied for BBC's MasterChef 2013 with the knowledge that I needed to give myself some credibility in relation to food and, if I got far enough in the competition, it would give me the platform to launch the business. I got to the finals and following that I quit my job to create Hokkei.
In 2015 I appeared on a documentary following the set up of Hokkei called BBC Wales' Larkin and Dale's Takeaway Revolution followed by BBC 1's One Show on a business feature with Theo Paphitis.
In 2016 I will be launching my first Restaurant at the 5 Star Celtic Manor Resort in Wales.
